Learning together in local schools (CSV) – University of Reading
16 June 1998This year a total of 229 students from The University of Reading, Gyosei International College, Reading College of Arts & Technology and Randolph-Macon Woman's College volunteered to spend two or three hours of their spare time each week helping pupils in 39 local primary and secondary schools. The Reading student tutoring project is part of 'Learning Together', a nationwide scheme co-ordinated by Community Service Volunteers (CSV). The students' efforts will be rewarded when the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Roger Williams, will present certificates to those who have completed at least ten periods of 'tutoring'. The students will be addressed by Mr Andrew Daykin, Director of Education and Community Services, Reading Borough Council. The Mayor of Reading, Councillor David Geary, will also be among the guests. The presentation ceremony will take place on Wednesday 24 June at 4.30 pm in the Blue Room on the University's Whiteknights campus. Press attendance will be welcome. The ceremony is expected to last about 45 minutes.
