Top Government Adviser Launches Education Lecture Series – University of Reading
08 June 2000The School of Education at The University of Reading is hosting its first Public Lecture to launch a new series of talks by high profile members of the education community. On Tuesday 13 June Professor Michael Barber, Head of the Department for Education and Employment's Standards and Effectiveness Unit, and one of the Government's leading advisers, will speak on 'World Class Performance: a realistic goal'. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of research into school improvement Professor Barber will put forward a vision for the future of education, pointing the way to raise standards throughout the system.
An invited audience of 250 local teachers and representatives from all the Local Education Authorities in the region will have the chance to hear the latest thinking from one of the Government's most important advisers. There will be a publisher's exhibition before the lecture and a wine reception to follow. The event is partly sponsored by leading educational publisher Continuum [formerly Cassell] which has close links with the School of Education, many of the staff are published by Continuum.
The lecture series will continue in the Autumn. The School of Education is one of the largest in the country, offering the full range of courses from undergraduate to doctoral level and attracting many international students from all over the world. Several thousand teachers a year attend everything from single day courses to full time Masters programmes.
