Top Ranking Philosophy – University of Reading

18 September 2000

The University's Department of Philosophy Graduate Programme is ranked fourth best in the country in the new 2000-2001 edition of the most highly respected International Guide to Philosophy Departments, and, in fact, among the top 30 departments in the world.

The Philosophical Gourmet Report 2000-2001: A Ranking of Graduate Programs in the English-Speaking World was published on Monday 18 September by Blackwells. This is the latest edition of what has become the
authoritative guide to philosophy departments world-wide. The good news for us is that it ranks the Reading Philosophy Department fourth equal among
Departments in the UK. Only one University from Canada or Australia is ranked ahead of Reading, so Reading ranks fifth equal for the English-Speaking World
outside the USA. The Guide places the Reading Philosophy Department in the top part of Group 4, which includes the Departments ranked 17-29 in the
USA. Thus of all Philosophy Departments in the English-Speaking World we are ranked between 21 and 35. Below are the top 20 Graduate Philosophy
Programmes in the UK from the report:
