University expands facilities for dairy science research – University of Reading

17 July 2002

The University of Reading plans to expand its 430-cow herd at its Centre for Dairy Research (CEDAR), the UK’s premier dairy research facility, by consolidating all of the University Farms' milk production on the Arborfield site. This plan would lead to the end of commercial milk production at the University’s Sonning Farm in Autumn 2002. Instead, it is intended that the Sonning Farm will concentrate on beef calf rearing, replacement heifers for the expanded dairy herd at CEDAR, and provide additional grazing for the University’s flock of 850 ewes.
