£13 million cash boost for Reading's research facilities – University of Reading
13 February 2003The University has been awarded almost £13 million to strengthen science and technology research in the latest round of allocations from the Government's Science Research Investment Fund. (SRIF)
It is Reading's share of a £1bn government investment for 2004 to 2006 and is made to enable universities to invest in world class research facilities
Vice Chancellor Professor Gordon Marshall said "Our allocation of £12.9 million is a very welcome confirmation of our status as a leading research institution."
Awards were made to over 100 institutions and Reading received the 17th largest sum in England, and the third highest in the south-east. [behind Oxford and Southampton].
Universities now have three months to prepare a list of proposed projects for submission to the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
In the previous allocation round, Reading, in collaboration with Brunel, Surrey and Royal Holloway, invested in a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance scanner to extend the work of our internationally excellent Department of Psychology. SRIF Funding is also providing a modern facility to house research associated with the Departments of Psychology and Reading's world renowned Department of Meteorology.
