National Awards for Head of Dairy Research – University of Reading

07 January 2003

Professor David Beever, Director of The Centre for Dairy Research (CEDAR), University of Reading, has just been presented with the prestigious National Livestock Nutrition Award for the outstanding contribution he has made to dairy science, particularly in the areas of ruminant nutrition, milk secretion and environmental pollution. The award also recognizes the immense support and encouragement he has provided to young researchers throughout his career and for always being prepared to act as a catalyst for debate.

Professor Beever has also just been listed as one of the most highly-cited researchers in the Agricultural Sciences by the ISI recently. The awards are sponsored by ISI, a Thomson Scientific company which maintains the most comprehensive database of research information in the world.

The National Livestock Nutrition Award presentation was made last week by Dr Tim Fitt of Roche Vitamins (UK) Ltd, at the University of Nottingham Feed Conference.

Professor Beever, who is the author of over 450 research publications, has been a leading figure in building CEDAR to a research unit of International status. Before joining the University he spent 20 years at Grassland Research Institute at Hurley where he was Head of Ruminant Nutrition and Metabolism for 7 years.

The National Livestock Nutrition Award is presented annually to the person or team who, in the opinion of an independent panel of experts drawn from universities and industry, has made the most significant or innovative contribution during the preceding five years to the nutrition or practice of feeding farm livestock. It is sponsored by Roche Vitamins (UK) Ltd. and comprises an inscribed silver salver and a travel grant of £2000.
