Arthurian legend and TV magic – University of Reading
12 November 2003Seminars discussing the best of children's literature and media are to be held at the University of Reading's world renowned Centre for International Research in Childhood: Literature, Culture, Media (CIRCL). Topics under discussion at the two academic seminars include TH White's classic Arthurian novel, The Sword in the Stone, and BBC Children's Hour. CIRCL PhD student Hilary Fraser will be talking about 'Time and Narrative in TH White's The Sword in the Stone', while Dr Simon Flynn, who is a guest lecturer on the MA course in Children's Literature, will be discussing Children's Hour. Dr Karin Lesnik-Oberstein, Director of CIRCL, said: "The seminars are open to anyone and are very informal. They are academic in content and our seminars in the past have been given by a range of people – from CIRCL students to eminent visiting speakers such as the author Philip Pullman." CIRCL aims to promote and coordinate international and interdisciplinary academic research in childhood, focusing particularly on research in children and culture, children's literature, and children and the media.
