Knowledge Transfer Partnerships - the new improved TCS! – University of Reading
01 September 2003TCS, the Government's leading technology and knowledge transfer grant scheme allowing academics to work on collaborative research and development projects with companies, is being transformed. Following the DTI's review of business support, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships will replace TCS from September. The University is the leading HEI in TCS and is hoping to strengthen this position with the new grant. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships will retain all the benefits of TCS - an average of £50,000 research grant per year of the project, high success rate for funding (95%) and a flexible way to collaborate with industry and charities. The grant covers the cost of: employing a graduate to undertake the research work, equipment, travel and training budgets, as well as a budget to cover academic time on the project. Projects can now last up to 3 years, meaning that it may be possible for graduates working on high level projects to attain PhDs, and projects can involve more than 1 graduate for large or difficult problems. This will allow more challenging and leading edge projects to be undertaken. As with TCS, the University's KTP & TCS Centre will manage all activity relating to Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. This includes assistance with partnership formation, grant application, grant administration and project management, as well as organising the recruitment of the graduate researchers.
