Bach, Beethoven, Bourgeois, Faure and Schubert – University of Reading
24 February 2004Music lovers are in for a treat in the coming weeks as the University of Reading's Department of Music stage two magnificent concerts. Reading University Chorus and Sinfonia will be performing Bach's B minor Mass on Saturday 28 February 2004, at The University Great Hall, London Road, Reading. Paul Rhys, a part-time composition lecturer in the Department of Music, will be conducting, and soloists include Anne-Marie Czajkowski, a singing teacher at the University, Prudence Raper and Simon Sherwood. Advance tickets for the concert, which is at 7.30pm, are £8 (£3.50 concessions). The price on the door is £10 (£5 concessions). The University's Symphony Orchestra will also be performing at the University Great Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday 6 March. "This fully orchestral concert, full of contrasts, has something for everyone," says conductor, David Meacock. "It begins with Beethoven's mighty 'Eroica' Symphony No. 3, and is followed by the unfamiliar yet accessible Euphonium Concerto by Derek Bourgeois, which will be played by current Master of Music student Chris Smith. "Faure's beautiful 'Pavane' and Schubert's famous 'Rosamunde Entr'act No. 2 in Bb' bring the varied programme to a lyrical close. I very much hope music-lovers will take this opportunity of supporting the local University's Symphony Orchestra." Advance tickets cost £6 (£3 concessions). The price on the door is £8 (£5 concessions).
