Masterclasses in Music – University of Reading
13 July 2004The Mtpp (Music Teaching in Professional Practice) programme is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of three enjoyable and educational summer school Masterclasses. The fourth Mtpp International Summer School for Music Teachers signals the opening of this year's Mtpp programme. This groundbreaking initiative, based at the International Centre for Research in Music Education, represents an innovative approach to career development at postgraduate level for instrumental and vocal teachers. The Summer School provides a rich mixture of practical sessions and tutorials that bring students together and develop close collaboration with tutors. This year's Masterclasses are also open to the public. To begin with, Stephen Goss from the University of Surrey will give a Masterclass on guitar performance, working with students from the Berkshire Young Musicians' Trust and members of the Mtpp Summer School. Brass takes centre stage the following evening as John Miller, Director of Brass Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, will work with students from Hampshire Music Service: two soloists and an ensemble. The final night sees Paul Harris give a simultaneous learning class, working with clarinet students from the Berkshire Young Musicians' Trust. These Masterclasses are an opportunity for students to hone their skills from expert tutors while also providing a great evening's entertainment for the public. Tickets are £5.00 (Concs. £3.00) for these sessions and are available on the evening or can be booked in advance. Contact Daniela Brewis on 0118 378 8843.
