Reading's Career Management Skills programme goes international – University of Reading
01 June 2004Reading's Career Management Skills programme has officially gone international. When Head of Careers Khamis Al-Rasbi of Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, purchased the online careers education programme he became the first customer outside the United Kingdom and The Republic of Ireland to purchase Reading's Career Management programme. Director of the Careers Advisory Service, Shauna van den Bos, said: "What's becoming clear is that the University of Reading's Career Management Skills programme has a major contribution to make in helping institutions address graduate employability not only in this country but abroad as well." Mr Al-Rasbi said: "I was introduced to CMS by Richard Connolly, Careers Education Manager at the University of Reading, when it was being developed. I was very impressed. I feel that CMS online will greatly help us to assist the students of Sultan Qaboos University find graduate-level careers." The decision to sell the programme was taken just over two years ago. Over 50 other institutions including, Warwick, York, Bristol, Essex Universities, Oxford Brookes, Coventry and the University of the West of England have purchased it. Other purchasers have included Cornwall College and the Glasgow College of Printing. "It's been quite a year," said Ms Shauna van den Bos. "It began with the programme winning two national awards, including the prestigious Careers Service's Unit (CSU, now Graduate Prospects) website of the year Award. The programme continues to sell strongly and there is still a lot of interest in CMS coming from mainland Europe.
