Authors and scholars unite for International Women's Day – University of Reading
02 March 2004Acclaimed novelist Leslie Wilson will be among the writers and academics converging on the University of Reading on Saturday 6 March for a special event to commemorate International Women's Day. The event – A Celebration of Women Writers – will feature a lecture by Ms Wilson, whose first book for children 'Last Train from Kummersdorf' received excellent reviews. She will be joined by authors Frances Wilson, whose book 'The Courtesan's Revenge' was featured as one of Radio Four's Book of the Week last year, and Annie Caulfield, an award-winning writer, whose most recent work 'Show Me the Magic' records her travels in Benin. There will also be workshops led by University of Reading academics: Dr Lucy Bending will examine Angela Carter's 'Nights at the Circus' and Alison Kelly will look at 'Unless' by Carol Shields. Additionally, there is the opportunity to learn more about Script Writing with local comedy writer Gill Smith. A Celebration of Women Writers is taking place at the University of Reading's Bulmershe campus on Saturday 6 March from 10am – 4.30pm. Tickets are £23 (£17 concessions) with an optional lunch available for £7 (must be booked in advance).
