Students' cartoon capers aid relief effort – University of Reading

17 January 2005

map of AsiaUniversity of Reading staff and students will get a surprise on Tuesday 18 January when much-loved cartoon characters such as the Pink Panther will be on campus raising money for the Asian tsunami disaster appeal. A group of first year undergraduate students will be donning costumes kindly provided by Carnival Stores in Reading and collecting money whilst attending lectures and walking around Whiteknights campus. The fundraising event has been organised by Chet Khatu, 18, who is studying Economics and Mathematics. He believes that every donation to the appeal can help make a real difference. "It's horrific thinking about how many people have been affected by this catastrophe," said Chet. "The clean-up operation is huge and in my mind it's everyone's responsibility to help in any way they can – hopefully, this fundraiser will show that literally anybody can contribute towards relieving a disaster like this." End For an interview or to arrange for a photographer to come to campus on Tuesday 18 January, contact Chet Khatu on 07865 091 747 or email: leu04ck@rdg.ac.uk Alternatively, contact Craig Hillsley, the University's press officer on (tel) 0118 378 7388 or (email) c.hillsley@rdg.ac.uk
