Know who is sometimes more important than know how – University of Reading
04 March 2005Novice entrepreneurs are often advised to write business plans and acquire extensive business skills. In the final talk of the University' Public Lecture Series, Professor Shai Vyakarnam examines how the reality of business creation and innovation requires the transfer of knowledge, access to resources, team members and markets. "These are best obtained through contacts and networks," he says. "Policy makers should look to harness and develop the entrepreneurial spirit of the individual." Shai was recently appointed Visiting Professor to the Business School, where he is involved in the University's entrepreneurship programme. He joined Reading from the University of Cambridge Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning. This series of lectures has proved to be one of the most successful in recent times. Alison Fabian, the series organiser believes audiences have been fascinated and entertained over the past few months. "It has been extremely pleasing to see the amount of people attending each if the lectures," she says. "The enormously positive feedback we have received is testimony to the wide variety of topics covered and excellence of our speakers." As with all the University's Public Lectures this event is free to attend and no ticket is required.
