Enterprise Week at the University of Reading – University of Reading

Anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit, or dreams of being the next Richard Branson, will get a helping hand this autumn from the University of Reading, which is involved in a number of events during national Enterprise Week (14 – 20 November). Over the course of the week, the University has organised lectures, workshops and other special activities, which, in keeping with the ethos of Enterprise Week, aim to inspire people to be enterprising – to turn their ideas into something real. The week will culminate with the launch of the University's new 'Innovation Lab' by renowned chef Heston Blumenthal. "We really want to inspire people during Enterprise week," said Professor Carl Stychin, the University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise. "Along with Business Link, we've put all our efforts into arranging events that will motivate people to get started in business, move them up the next rung, or even just get them thinking of the possibilities. "The University of Reading is a vital part of the economy in the Thames Valley, and we're determined to do everything we can to stimulate and support businesses and enterprising individuals in the region. After all, it can only be of benefit to all concerned – to the employers, the University and anyone who lives in this part of the world." The main events taking place at the University during Enterprise Week are: Understanding Enterprise Friday 11th November, The Forest School, Wokingham. A lively awareness/educational workshop designed to teach young people some of the skills and attitudes required to be an enterprising person and refresh their learning by getting involved in something different. Keynote Lecture from Russell Smith of Business Boffins Monday 14th, Palmer Lecture Theatre, Palmer Building, Whiteknights Campus, 7–8.30pm. Business Boffins offer business help that works for anyone who wants to start, run or grow a company. They offer programmes for small businesses, community businesses and for young people. Russell Smith will be explaining how they can help you. The Interview with&ellipse; Wasim Ahmed Tuesday 15th, New Technology Institute, Whiteknights Campus, 6.30–9.30pm. This special edition of the University's regular 'The Interview with...' series will see Wasim Ahmed of The Chilli being interviewed on his entrepreneurial experiences. 'Woz' is a genuine character and the evening promises to be thoroughly entertaining. 'Start Talking Ideas' event and Open Evening in association with Business Link Wednesday 16th, Madejski Theatre, Agriculture Building, Earley Gate, Whiteknights Campus, 6.15–8.30pm. In collaboration with Business Link, the University will be holding the 'Start Talking Ideas' presentation containing ideas and tips on getting started in the world of business. Come along to also find out more about what the University and Business Link can offer potential and current business owners. 'Innovation Works' Launch with Heston Blumenthal Thursday 17th, Innovation Lab, London Road Campus, 4–6pm. NB: invited guests only The University of Reading is now host to the only Innovation Lab in the Thames Valley region. The Lab provides a unique space for brainstorming, problem solving strategy formulation and new thinking. The Innovation Works will be launched by Heston Blumenthal, whose restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, was recently named best in the world by a panel of 600 food experts.
