Childcare staff given chance to boost career prospects – University of Reading

a classroomChildcare staff and teaching assistants in the Thames Valley region are being offered a chance to improve their career prospects with the launch of foundation degrees in child development and learning at the University Of Reading this week. The degrees are aimed at those with two years experience of working in the care and education sectors and will allow them to expand their job opportunities and take on more responsibility. Students will remain in employment while they study for the work-based learning foundation degree. The courses are available at the Berkshire College of Agriculture, Bracknell and Wokingham College and Newbury College. Kriss Turner, Foundation Degree Programme Director, Institute of Education at the University Of Reading said, 'By incorporating work experiences into the curriculum and building upon students' good practice, there are realistic opportunities to improve skills and understanding. Students may progress from the Foundation Degree to an honours degree and Qualified Teacher Status'. A launch event will be held at the University Of Reading on 24th January from 4:30 – 7:00pm, members of staff from the participating colleges and the University will be on hand to answer any queries and to discuss the degrees with employers and potential students.
