Learn about business, entrepreneurship and &ellipse; Australian pop music! – University of Reading
20 January 2006Business tycoon and inimitable character Tony Mooney is the latest entrepreneur to talk about his experiences in the commercial world in this year's series of nine public 'Interviews', organised by the University of Reading's Business School. The Interview places an experienced entrepreneur in front of an audience of business-people who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs themselves, and on Thursday 26 January, Tony will be discussing his career in sectors as diverse as property, IT recruitment and toys – as well as his brief foray into the music world with a Number One hit single in the Australian pop charts! "With family ties to Adam and the Ants and WHAM, Tony is a real character," said Becky Miller, the Business School's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Manager. "In addition to his business pursuits, his bizarre escapades include being invited to play with the 1974 Polish football World Cup squad, completing 165 sky dives and owning a double-decker bus." But Tony also has a keen business mind. After early positions in Fortes, GM and Electrolux, he moved into the property sector and launched his first business, producing monthly papers for estate agents. Tony then moved into IT recruitment and expanded into Australia, growing the Ashcroft Group to 13 businesses. After the collapse of IT recruitment in 2000, Tony bought a company making jigsaw puzzles, which later crashed spectacularly. He now works in both fundraising and the football/education sector between China and the UK. "With such a wide range of experiences, the interview with Tony is bound to be both informative and entertaining for anyone in the early stages of building up their own company," said Becky Miller. The Interview, which takes place at the University's Whiteknights campus, lasts approximately 45 minutes with networking opportunities before and after – making it an ideal event for Thames Valley entrepreneurs to make contact with like-minded people. The Interview is free to all attendees, but registration beforehand is essential.
