Why was Alexander so Great? – University of Reading

Local families have the chance to discover how legendary military commander Alexander the Great changed the world during an event at the University's Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology on Saturday 15 July. At the event – called 'Why was Alexander so great?' – children will be able to build siege engines, make weapons, test battle strategies and handle genuine Hellenistic artefacts. The event, which will reveal the story of one of history's most enigmatic individuals, is being held as part National Archaeology Week (15-23 July). The Week, organised by the Council for British Archaeology and its Young Archaeologists' Club and supported by English Heritage, aims to help people learn more about archaeology. The event details are as follows: "Why was Alexander so Great?" Suitable for all ages £3.50 per child (to cover materials), accompanying adult(s) free.
