University and law firm collaborate on family law – University of Reading
07 July 2006Business professionals from around the Thames Valley got together to learn about the implications of the recent high profile House of Lords judgment of the Miller and McFarlane divorce cases. Professor Elizabeth Cooke, from the University's School of Law, and Tony Roe, partner of the Family Group at leading law firm Boyes Turner, gave a seminar to bankers, accountants and IFAs from around the area on Wednesday 5 July. The event, held at Boyes Turner, was aimed at giving an insight to those who have clients in the midst of such difficulties and providing practical tips for the professionals themselves in, for example, financial disclosure. Professor Cooke was able to give an academic perspective, which offered a unique perspective. The event was part of a closer co-operation between Boyes Turner and the Law School. The firm has recently established prizes for Law students, including one for the best performance in the Family Law examination. This will be presented on Saturday 8 July to law student Hannah Pearce by Tony Roe at the School of Law.
