Student honoured in science award competition – University of Reading
07 June 2006Leo Lester, a PhD student working with Professor Mark Pagel in the School of Biological Sciences, was named runner-up in this year's prestigious Royal Institution's Young Science Graduate of the Year competition. Over 140 PhD students from around the country competed. The judges took the unprecedented step this year of creating the runner-up category to acknowledge that the outcome hung on the barest of margins. Leo's work has documented that the human genome contains genes acquired from a range of bacterial and archaebacterial species over a 3 billion year period.
