Statement concerning the suspension of industrial action – University of Reading
07 June 2006On Tuesday 6 June, an agreement was reached between the leaders of all Higher Education trades' unions and the Universities and Colleges Employers' Association (UCEA) on the basis for pay increases for 2006-09. Union members will now be balloted on the offer, and the 'action short of a strike' has been suspended. Naturally, we are very pleased that the industrial action that has affected universities across the country has now come to an end. Over the coming days and weeks we will be working hard to ensure that as many students as possible will graduate and that the end-of-year ceremonies will go ahead in July. The degrees that will be awarded to current students will be of the same high standing as those awarded by the University in past years. The University authorities have always enjoyed good relations with trades' union members and we look forward to those good relations continuing in the future. end
