Insect excitement at the Cole Museum – University of Reading

In celebration of The Royal Entomological Society's National Insect Week, running from 19-25 June, The Cole Museum of Zoology at the University of Reading is inviting insect enthusiasts to Bug Fest on Sunday 25 June from 10:00am to 4:00pm. There will be a wide-range of activities available through-out the day, appealing to children and adults alike. Visitors will be able to see live displays of giant stick insects, aquatic insects and leaf-cutter ants, find out whether they enjoy insect cuisine in an insect tasting session and ask the experts about their favourite bugs. The Flutterby Butterfly and Bug Safari activity trails will be available all day for children and experts Dr Amanda Callaghan and Dr Graham Holloway will give talks on Insects in Medicine and Chemical Warfare in Insects at 11:00am and 1:00pm. 'Bug Fest is a great opportunity to learn more about insect diversity and the crucial role they play in our everyday lives', said Dr Amanda Callaghan, the event organiser. 'The event will also give visitors a chance to explore the Cole Museum of Zoology and its various displays as a whole.' BBC Springwatch presenter Kate Humble will launch National Insect Week 2006 on Monday 19 June in the Natural History Museum's Wildlife Garden.
