Pharmaceutical industry leaders to talk at University conference – University of Reading
04 April 2007Two leading names in the pharmaceutical industry will be speaking at a free conference organised by the University-backed Thames Valley Life Sciences Network next month.
The conference will pull together key players in the biosciences, pharmaceuticals and healthcare fields. The Thames Valley Life Sciences Network (TVLSN), a science networking organisation is hosting the free conference which will focus on the healthcare research being carried out at Reading whilst illustrating how the University is taking steps to produce graduates with the wide range of skills now required by the healthcare industry.
Speakers include Alan Naylor, vice president of GlaxoSmithKline, and Mark Edwards, a senior director of Pfizer.
The conference, which is billed a showcase for life sciences, is being organised by Tracey Sanderson, manager of the TVLSN, who said: "TVLSN works to promote and stimulate innovation and enterprise in life sciences. This event, which will inform the healthcare industry about the breadth of research and skills available at the University of Reading, is designed to support this innovation agenda. It is a great opportunity for people working in life sciences to meet, exchange ideas and listen to some fascinating speakers.
The conference is being sponsored by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and South East Healthcare Technologies Alliance (SEHTA).
Mike Broadbent, Investor Development Manager of SEEDA, said: "There is an identified skills shortage in this field and this event will bring potential employers closer to graduate and post graduates and also inform the industry, from both a research and teaching perspective, of one of the regions major academic institutions."
The conference is free and will take place on Wednesday May 23, at the Madejski Theatre on the University's Whiteknights campus.
Anyone interested in attending should contact Tracey via email or register at the TVLSN website.
