New role for University of Reading Professor forges climate links with Imperial College – University of Reading
12 December 2007Professor Sir Brian Hoskins has been appointed Director of the Grantham Institute for Climate Change at Imperial College London, from January 2008.
Sir Brian will now share his time as a Royal Society Research Professor between Imperial College and the University of Reading, where he will continue his research into climate and weather systems.
The Walker Institute for Climate System Research at the University of Reading looks forward to working with the Grantham Institute to further develop research into climate change, and to apply this research to practical issues around adaptation and mitigation.
Sir Brian said: "This new position will enable me to harness the talents of world-leading experts from across Imperial College, and collaborate with the complementary talents at the University of Reading to deliver research with real-world impact."
Professor Nigel Arnell, Director of the Walker Institute, congratulated Sir Brian on his appointment, and said: "This provides an excellent opportunity for two leading groups to work together to tackle the scientific and engineering challenges posed by climate change. The two Institutes have complementary skills and expertise, and I look forward to us working together."
