University Short Courses Open To The Public – University of Reading
03 September 2007Become the next Ben Elton, wise-up on Winston Churchill, discover the real Pirates of the Caribbean or learn a new language, it's all possible as the University of Reading's part-time evening and daytime classes for adults begin this Autumn.
The University's School of Continuing Education is celebrating 30 hugely successful years of providing adult education classes to the people of Reading and the surrounding areas, by offering its widest choice of subjects ever.
With classes starting in October, the School is hosting an Open Day on Monday 10th September in Building 24 at the London Road campus. Between 2-8pm visitors will have the opportunity to talk to a member of staff about which courses would suit them, and also attend a 'try before you buy' taster session for certain courses, with the option of enrolling on the day.
Many of the classes last between five and 10 weeks (language courses last for 20 weeks) and there is a range of one-day events. Students have the chance to learn a new skill, explore an interest in greater depth or look to earn a formal qualification after a longer period of study.
The School has developed six successful two-year part-time Certificate of Higher Education courses. Life Science was added last year, to go with English Literature, History, History of Art, Architecture and Archaeology. These courses are a wonderful way to either learn about a subject in more depth or to try out university study. With no A-level needed, interest, enthusiasm and an open mind are the only qualifications required!
The School of Continuing Education's Myra Cottingham is urging people to enrol now to avoid disappointment: "More people than ever registered for courses last year and already enrolments are coming in thick and fast for classes starting in October.
"Local people choose to study at Reading in such large numbers as they are aware of our tutors' excellent reputation, and with such a wide variety of topics and study times to suit everyone, it's easy to see why our courses are so popular."
