University 'houses' local landlords' evening – University of Reading
15 April 2008This month, the University of Reading is aiming to give local landlords a new lease of life by hosting the very popular Landlord Information Evening, part of a multi-agency approach to improving relations between tenants and landlords.
Now in its 11th year, the evening is organised in conjunction with Reading and Wokingham Borough Councils and is free to attend. Among the issues to be discussed are housing law, waste management and students in the community.
A number of information stands will be on show in the Palmer Building on the University's Whiteknights Campus, together with a programme of talks in the adjacent lecture theatre. The Evening has become increasingly popular in recent years, with around 120 landlords attending the 2007 event.
Representatives from the fire and police services and Thames Valley University will be there, as well as sponsors of the councils' landlord accreditation schemes – making up a proactive and multi-agency group dedicated to improving all aspects of landlord and student issues.
Kay Dickinson, the University of Reading's accommodation officer, said: "With the expansion of the buy-to-let sector, the letting market has become increasingly competitive for local landlords. Because of the current excess supply of properties, they need to make sure they are doing all they can to make their properties as attractive as possible to potential tenants.
"This important evening provides a wonderful opportunity for landlords to take home some new ideas, and get up to speed on new legislation and property standards."
The evening will be held on Wednesday 23 April, at the Palmer Theatre, Whiteknights Campus, University of Reading, between 6.30 - 9pm.
