Reading No1 for Learning – University of Reading

17 April 2008

International students at the University of Reading have shown record levels of satisfaction with their learning experience according to a new survey.

The International Student Barometer (ISB) is the largest survey of the international student experience in the world surveying more than 250,000 international students since its inception in 2005. The Autumn Wave ran in October 2007 and measured the Application to Arrival Experience of new starters as well as the Learning, Living and Support Service experiences of international students.

For the Learning Experience and in an expanding benchmark group (91 institutions worldwide took part this year), Reading has improved its ranking position year on year. Autumn 2006 saw Reading placed 4th of 40 institutions and 1st in the 1994 Group index. In this academic year, international students at Reading placed the learning experience 1st in the ISB.

Professor Gordon Marshall, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading commented: "Thanks to all Reading staff whose hard work has placed Reading 1st for the Learning Experience putting us ahead of Oxford, Cambridge and Yale and many others who took part in the recent ISB survey."

Caroline Bysh, Director of the International Office said: "I am delighted with the results, though being number one is difficult to maintain and will require continued efforts."
