University's Mathematical physics professor made Fellow of American Physical Society – University of Reading
19 December 2008Mark Matsen, Professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Reading, has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Each year, no more than half of one percent of the Society membership is recognized by their peers for election to the status of Fellow in the American Physical Society.
According to the citation, Professor Matsen was elected a Fellow for "seminal contributions to the development and implementation of the self-consistent field theory for block-copolymer materials and polymeric brushes."
The American Physical Society Fellowship Program was created to recognize members who may have made advances in physics through original research and publication, or made significant innovative contributions in the application of physics to science and technology. They may also have made significant contributions to the teaching of physics or service and participation in the activities of the Society.
Professor Matsen, said: "It is a great honour to be elected a fellow of the American Physics Society in recognition for my contributions to polymer science. I must acknowledge that my research has benefited very much from working at a university with such a long history and strong international reputation for polymer science."
