University of Reading breaks fundraising record! – University of Reading
19 December 2008The University of Reading's Development and Alumni Relations Office had a record breaking fundraising campaign this autumn, raising £150,000 to support students at the University of Reading.
The Annual Fund was established in 2004 to encourage alumni to make a donation to the University to support current students. Since then, over £1 Million has been raised to enhance the student experience through financial support, innovative teaching and extra-curricular activities.
Twice a year, a dedicated call room is set up in the Palmer Building, from which current students telephone Reading graduates from the last 50 years. This provides an excellent opportunity for both our current students and alumni to share stories of how the University was then and now.
This was the 9th telephone campaign in which 50 current students participated in calling over 5,000 alumni. Despite the current financial climate, 25% of the alumni we spoke to decided to make a gift to the Fund, sharing the University's ambition to provide our students with opportunities during their University career that would otherwise not be possible.
The funds raised are disbursed each summer to a wide variety of projects, from Pro-Bono activities in the Law School to new boats for the sailing club. Over 70 projects have been supported since the Fund was establish in 2004, with almost £200,000 going to bursaries, scholarships and hardship funds to help support students financially.
