New award for Reading's Knowledge Transfer Partnerships – University of Reading
23 December 2008The University of Reading's Knowledge Transfer Centre is celebrating another success. One of its latest projects has won the award for Best Partnership North West England, as part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership Awards 2009.
The award-wining project was run on behalf of, and in conjunction with, Riding for the Disabled and Carriage Drivers Association (RDA), who are based in Warwick. A University of Reading graduate in Computer Science and Cybernetics, Phil Crabtree, with academic support from Professor Rachel McCrindle and Dr Shirley Williams from the University's School of Systems Engineering, worked on a project to move RDA from an outdated largely manual organisation to a dynamic and forward looking e-enabled enterprise. It considered both the technical implementation and social change management required in order to make this change.
The award will be presented at the Knowledge Transfer Partnership Awards 2009 in March 2009, a prestigious event attended by invited guests from industry, academia and government. As the winner of this award, the University is also being considered for the Best UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership Award, the winner of which will be announced at the awards ceremony itself.
This year, the University of Reading has celebrated 20 years of hugely successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP). The University's Knowledge Transfer Centre matches the expertise of the University's staff and graduates to companies, helping them develop new products and services, as well as boosting their competitiveness and profitability. The University is one of the leading places for developing and managing KTP in the country and, since its conception, the Centre has been responsible for over 150 Government-funded projects.
