Shinfield Parish - we want your views – University of Reading
04 September 2008Local residents are invited to come along to a public consultation event, to find out more about proposals for two separate schemes in the Shinfield Parish area.
A consortium of Taylor Wimpey and David Wilson Homes with the University of Reading have an interest in land at Shinfield, Spencers Wood and Three Mile Cross. They are preparing a proposal for up to 3,000 homes and the land has been identified as a Strategic Development Location for housing in Wokingham Borough Council's draft Core Strategy which has been submitted to the Secretary of State.
Separately, the University of Reading also has plans to develop land between the M4 and Cutbush Lane, to the north of Shinfield Grange, as a Science and Innovation Park. The Science and Innovation Park will be designed to bring together innovative knowledge and technology based companies from both the local and international business communities who are keen to develop knowledge bases with each other and the University and will provide development space and high tech facilities for innovative and knowledge based businesses.
A spokesman for the housing scheme, Ian Thorn, said of the scheme "We believe that the plans for new homes in the Shinfield parish are both ambitious and sustainable."
David Gillham, Director Research and Enterprise Services at the University of Reading, said: "A Science and Innovation Park will be a centre of knowledge interaction and help boost employment and economic activity in the area. The local business community has responded positively to our plans for a Science and Innovation Park and we now look forward to sharing our plans widely with the local community and other interested parties."
Public consultation on both schemes will be held at Ryeish Green School, Hyde End Road, Spencers Wood and residents are welcome to come along at the times below:
Friday 26th September, 3.00pm to 8.00pm
Saturday 27th September, 9.00am to 4.00pm

In addition, a number of experts working on both projects will be available for people to discuss their thoughts.
