University of Reading funded to help the pharmaceutical industry in the South East prepare for economic upturn – University of Reading

09 April 2009

The University of Reading is delighted that its innovative proposal for a project to support the retention and growth of the pharmaceutical industry in the South East has been awarded £689,185 under the Economic Challenge Investment Fund (ECIF).

The Fund was set up by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to help universities respond rapidly to meet the immediate needs of the economy during the current recession.

Reading's project focuses on training and development for a sector of prime importance to the South East. It will help the biopharma industry prepare for the economic upturn and its ongoing development and sustainability in the region. The scheme has a strong focus on supporting smaller businesses which are essential to the industry and the regional economy, but especially vulnerable in a recession.
