20 March 2009The governing body of the University of Reading, the University's Council, decided today to close the School of Health and Social Care with effect from September 2011.
The University takes its responsibility to staff and students very seriously and their interests will be our priority until the School closes.

The decision of the Council - 23 members supported the Senior Management Board recommendation to close the School, 4 voted against and 1 abstention.
No further recruitment will take place for the School.
In line with the University's Review and restructuring Policy and Statute XXXIII, a Restructuring Committee will be set up. The University will initiate a process of consultation with both the staff concerned and its recognised Trade Unions with a view to avoiding wherever possible compulsory redundancy.
A Transition Management Group will be established to ensure appropriate provision for students currently enrolled on courses. Students will be supported to ensure they are able to complete their courses.
The Council is the Executive Governing Body of the University. The Council is made up of academic, non-academic staff, students and external members.
