Hear University news and air your views this Autumn
Release Date 01 November 2010
The University of Reading is delighted to invite the public to a Community Open Event on Monday 8 November. The evening is a chance for local residents to learn about Reading's cutting-edge climate change and sustainability research, and to discover and discuss other University activities and events.
Professor Tony Downes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, and other senior members of staff will be on hand to answer questions and explain current and future campus developments. Beforehand, visitors can go on a fascinating tour of Reading's world-renowned Department of Meteorology and hear from some of Reading's climate and sustainability experts.
Professor Downes said: "We are delighted to have a very healthy and fruitful relationship with the local community. This event is an excellent platform for the University to hear the views of our neighbours and engage in valuable discussion which will further strengthen those ties. I look forward to welcoming as many local residents as possible to the University on 8 November."
The University of Reading is proud of the role it plays in the local community. It is one of the largest employers in the region and educates highly-skilled graduates, many of which stay on in the local area to the benefit of the region's economy.
The quality of research at Reading is highly regarded nationally and internationally and focuses on issues affecting today's society. The tour preceding the Q&A session offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to find out about some of the important research that helps make Reading one of the top 200 universities in the world.
The Community Open Event begins at 6.45pm on Monday 8 November, in Agriculture Building, Whiteknights Campus (Earley Gate entrance)
