Henley Business School wins gold award for green credentials
Release Date 29 November 2010
Henley Business School's commitment to safeguarding and sustaining the local, national and global environment has resulted in its Greenlands Campus being awarded the Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
Henley Business School at the University of Reading is one of the first Business Schools in the UK to achieve a Gold Award under the new version of the rigorous criteria. Half of Greenlands waste is now recycled, menus are created using local seasonal produce and wetland scrapes to encourage wildlife habitat have been created.
The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. The scheme honours venues that demonstrate high levels of commitment in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable business and tourism with bronze, silver and gold awards. Award winners are scrutinised on 145 separate measures by external assessors before being appointed the relevant award.
Alan Brand, Director of Hotel and Estate Services at Henley Business School's Greenlands campus commented: "It is our aim to become an industry leader in environmental management and contribute to a sustainable future. We are therefore delighted to receive recognition for our efforts and will continue to do all we can as a business to protect the environment at Greenlands for future generations.
"Our Business School clients and Conference Organisers are increasingly looking for venues with ‘green' credentials, so we're delighted that we can now host events with minimal impact on the environment. This award follows our recent success in achieving ISO 14001 accreditation which is the internationally accepted standard in recognition for implementing an effective Environmental Management System."
The Greenlands campus which is located on the Marlow road, just outside Henley on Thames, is situated on the river and has both conference and hotel facilities which are available as a venue for private and corporate hire.
