Public consultation on proposals to redevelop University's Bridges Hall site

Release Date 11 April 2011

The University of Reading's accommodation partner, UPP, is putting forward proposals for development on the site of Bridges hall of residence, on the Whiteknights campus.

The re-development of the Bridges Hall site as replacement student accommodation forms part of the University's Whiteknights Campus Development Plan and will complete the current Whiteknights accommodation project. UPP's proposal will create a new Bridges Hall with integrated self-catering facilities and a separate catering hub.

The local community is invited to attend an exhibition on the proposals, which will be co-hosted by the University of Reading and UPP. It will take place on two days - 18 April, 3-6pm and 19 April, 5-8pm at Wessex Hall, Whiteknights Road.

Details of the proposals will also be available online from 18 April at www.reading.ac.uk/local.

Notes to editors:

The University has selected UPP as its preferred bidder to operate its student accommodation in a landmark, long-term partnership. Subject to final contract agreement, UPP will take over responsibility for managing the University's existing accommodation from August 2011, as well as subsequently the accommodation currently under construction at Childs Hall and the proposed new hall on the Bridges site.
