University teacher training in top 3 in UK
Release Date 20 May 2011
The Institute of Education at the University of Reading has been ranked in the top three education institutions in the Guardian higher education rankings.
The Institute, which trains over 1,000 teachers every year, is one of the leading providers of teacher training in the UK and also provides Masters, PhDs and continuous professional development programmes for many of the region's teachers. While graduates from the Institute go onto work in schools across the UK and internationally, the majority choose to pursue their teaching careers in partner schools in the area.
The Institute was ranked third out of 75 institutions, climbing 6 places from the previous year. Professor Andy Goodwyn, Director of the Institute of Education, said: "It is very gratifying to see the hard work of our staff reflected in the new Guardian league table. Our ranking is a testament to the quality of the teaching here, the excellent relationships we have with our partner schools locally and the subsequent employability of our graduates. Last year, 96% of our graduates found a teaching job. "
The Institute of Education is scheduled to move to its new home on the University's London Road campus at the end of the year.
