Stock up on your shares and markets knowledge at Henley Business School
Release Date 18 October 2011
Have you ever wondered what happens on a trading room floor? Can you handle the pressures faced by those in the ‘city'? Well you can now find out thanks to a unique programme offered by the University of Reading's ICMA Centre that is bound to pay dividends!
The Centre, part of Henley Business School, is delighted to launch the ‘Introduction to Trading Certificate' in partnership with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), and supported by Thomson Reuters.
This three-day programme is ideal for anyone interested in trading, whether as a professional or as an investor, or those who simply want to learn how markets function and what part trading plays in them.
Through learning in the Centre's simulated dealing rooms attendees will feel the exciting atmosphere a trading floor generates. They will also use the latest trading simulation software and receive hands-on training from ICMA Centre experts.
Dr Mike Smith, Dealing Room Director at the ICMA Centre, said: "Much has been written in the press in recent times about how traders and their bad practices were partly responsible for some of the bank failures. Over the last few weeks we've witnessed a dramatic sell-off in shares around the world, with stock markets seeing falls of huge proportions. But what does this all mean?
"By earning an Introduction to Trading Certificate you will discover what traders actually do. You will be totally immersed in a trading environment which will give you a much deeper appreciation of the trading process and of the extreme pressures traders experience."
The programme will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to trading and covers the motivations for trading in stocks and shares.
Dr Smith added: "We have run simulated trading days for major investment banks and other financial institutions for many years, but the exciting aspect of this programme is its relevance to individuals. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort early next year."
The first Introduction to Trading course is in March 2012 and the ICMA Centre anticipates running a number of courses each year. For more information or to book a place please visit www.icmacentre.ac.uk/itc.
