Fun for all the family at Harris Garden Open Event

Release Date 27 April 2012

Harris Garden

In celebration of national Universities Week, the University of Reading is giving the public an opportunity to explore the beautiful five-hectare Harris Garden, a hidden gem of the Whiteknights campus.

On Sunday 29 April from 2-5.30pm, all are welcome to relax and enjoy refreshments and ice cream on the lawn, pose gardening questions to one of our expert horticulturalists or take a guided tour of the Garden.

The Harris Garden's artist-in-residence, Jenny Halstead, will be displaying some her work on the day and offering an opportunity to sign up to a special art class in the Garden (which will take place in the summer). There is also a chance to make your very own ‘bee hotel' for your garden, with staff from the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, and to take part in a creative writing workshop.

Universities Week is a national campaign that aims to increase public awareness of the wide and varied role of the UK's universities, highlights how universities benefit everyone, whether or not they have gone to university themselves.
