Henley Business School to host leading European financial conference
Release Date 23 August 2012
The ICMA Centre at Henley Business School is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 2013 European Financial Management Association (EFMA) annual meeting from 26 - 29 June 2013.
This annual event is one of the largest and most prominent academic conferences on finance in Europe. The conference will see leaders from the financial world come together to share knowledge and discuss decision making in all areas of finance, including Bankruptcy and Financial Distress, Corporate Governance, Bank Regulation and Currency Markets and Exchange Rates.
Professor John Campbell, Chair of the Economics Department at Harvard University, has been announced as the keynote speaker for the 2013 meeting. Close to 300 papers are expected to be presented in total across the four days.
This will be the first time Henley Business School at the University of Reading will have hosted the event.
Dr Simone Varotto, Senior Lecturer in Finance at the ICMA Centre and Chair of the 2013 EFMA conference, said: "Hosting such a prestigious event is an amazing opportunity for both our staff and students to be exposed to the highest level of discussion, interpretation and policy development. Listening to Professor Campbell alone discuss finance is a privilege, never mind the hundreds of other great financial minds that will be gathered at Reading."
The Conference always includes special sessions on timely topics with thought provoking contributions by prominent academics, senior practitioners and regulators. This year's meeting, held at the University of Barcelona in Spain, featured plenary sessions on ‘Banking and the Sovereign Crisis' and ‘EU and the Greek Debt Crisis'. Also in attendance were panellists from the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank as well as the former director of the Greek prime minister's Economic Office.
John Doukas, Executive Director of EFMA and Founding and Managing Editor of the European Financial Management, the journal of EFMA said: "I am delighted that the 2013 EFMA conference will be held at such a prestigious institution as the University of Reading. The ICMA Centre and Henley Business School, who are organising the event, are well established and highly regarded in academic finance circles and the finance industry. Their expertise, excellent facilities and proximity to London make them an ideal host for the EFMA annual meeting."
The EFMA was founded in 1994 to encourage and disseminate knowledge about financial decision making in all areas of finance as they specifically relate to European corporations, financial institutions and capital markets. The membership of the EFMA includes academics, practitioners and students from across Europe and the rest of the world.
The call for papers for the 2013 EFMA conference is now open and details will soon be available at our dedicated website - www.icmacentre.ac.uk/efma2013
Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the conference. For more information please contact Sarah Lloyd-Powell.
