University of Reading PhD researcher Lionel Smith showcases the benefits of his grass-free lawn in a London park

Release Date 11 June 2013

PhD researcher Lionel Smith from the University of Reading explains that his London grass-free lawn, which includes daisies red-flowering clover, thyme, chamomile, pennyroyal and Corsican mint, creates a 'pollinator-friendly patchwork' - with 25% more insect life than that found in 'traditionally managed grass lawns.'

As well as being filmed for BBC Online Lionel appeared on BBC Radio 4's Today programme
