Ebola comment: Dr Ben Neuman says possibility of Ebola coming to UK is very unlikely

Release Date 30 July 2014

Dr Ben Neuman, virologist at the University of Reading, said:

"The recent flurry of activity between the government and the public health authorities is just part of the normal and appropriate response to a disease like Ebola.  Public officials help to keep us safe by preparing for the worst, then preventing it from happening.  They worry, so we don't have to.

"There is a massive infrastructure in place to prevent diseases like Ebola from coming to Britain - highly trained people, equipment and technology that will be mobilised.  One reason that we haven't heard more about similar diseases in the past is because our public health workers are good at their jobs."
