Reading academic wins prestigious politics award
Release Date 23 April 2015
The University of Reading is delighted to announce that Dr Emma Mayhew has been awarded the prestigious Sir Bernard Crick Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Emma was presented with her award by Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, in a ceremony at Sheffield's historic Cutlers' Hall earlier this month.
The Sir Bernard Crick Award is awarded for outstanding teaching in politics by the Political Studies Association. It was named after Sir Bernard Crick (1929 - 2008), whose contribution to the professional discipline of the study of politics over half a century was second to none.
The judging panel awarded Emma the prize for her outstanding teaching and learning excellence, student support provision as well as successful innovation and leadership recognised by colleagues across the HE community.
This award comes just a month after Emma was awarded the RUSU Technological Innovation in Teaching Excellence Award for her use of screen capture and video feedback.
Dr Emma Mayhew said: "I am absolutely thrilled to win these awards, both of which are important in terms of increasing the profile of teaching and learning at Reading and supporting innovation across the HE sector."
Emma joined the Department of Politics and International Relations in 2007. She is currently Department Director of Teaching and Learning as well as Senior Tutor for the School of Politics, Economics and International Relations. Emma has recently become a University Teaching Fellow and Senior Fellow of the HEA.
Professor Dominik Zaum, Head of the University of Reading's School of Politics, Economics and International Relations, said: "We are constantly looking into ways to develop our teaching, and Emma has been at the forefront of this. Those familiar with Emma's substantial contribution to technology-enhanced learning, and her outstanding commitment to pastoral care, will not be surprised by her success."
