First phase plans for Thames Valley Science Park submitted
Release Date 30 March 2015
The University of Reading has submitted detailed proposals for the first development phase of the new Thames Valley Science Park to Wokingham Borough Council.
If approved, work on the Gateway Building, the first to be constructed on the site located to the south of the M4 in Shinfield, will begin later this year. It is expected that the Science Park will open in the spring of 2017.
The Gateway Building will provide a striking entrance to the Thames Valley Science Park and is aimed at attracting innovative small and medium-sized technology-based companies that are researching and delivering cutting-edge new products.
The Thames Valley Science Park will eventually provide 800,000 square foot of flexible laboratory and office space within a pedestrianised central area, offering the latest in state-of-the-art shared facilities. The opening of the Science Park will re-inforce the status of the Thames Valley as one of Europe’s strongest economies and as a location for innovation and technology.
A public consultation process has found broad support for the development and the local job opportunities it will generate. The Thames Valley Science Park, once completed, will have the potential to employ up to 5,000 people.
David Gillham, Director, Thames Valley Science Park said: “We’re very proud of the design for the Gateway Building, which will be the first development at the Thames Valley Science Park, therefore setting the tone for what will become one of Europe’s leading science parks.”
