Reading in the global top 100 for physical sciences

The University of Reading is in the top 100 universities in the world for the study of physical sciences, and top 10 in the UK, according to the latest subject league table.
The latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018 by Subject: Physical Sciences ranks Reading 95th in the world and 10th in the UK. This is the first time Reading has been in the global top 100 for this subject area.
Research from the University’s Environment theme feeds into this ranking, with a particular emphasis on these areas of study: Earth Observation and Space, Mathematics and Statistics, Weather, Climate, Chemical Sciences and Environmental Science.
Reading is ranked 201-250 in the overall THE World University Rankings for 2017/18 and is 32nd out of 93 institutions in the UK. For other THE subject rankings published this year, Reading is ranked as follows:
- Life Sciences: 126-150
- Business & Economics: 126-150
- Social Sciences: 151-175
- Arts & Humanities: 176-200
In other international league tables, the University is ranked within the top 200 of the QS World University Rankings index, and has improved its position in the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities for the past two years, in which it was ranked as third best in the UK – behind only Cambridge and Oxford universities – for Earth Sciences.
In the UK, Reading is ranked 29th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2018 (up three places), 27th in the Complete University Guide 2018 and 18th in the UK in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2017 (up two places).
