Threat to winter birds: A study led by Dr Tom Oliver (Biological Sciences) showing some bird and butterfly species are disappearing thanks to a combination of climate change and habitat loss was covered widely, including in The Guardian, The Sun, The Mirror, Carbon Brief, ITV, Get Reading, International Business Times and BBC Radio Berkshire. The study was also mentioned in the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit daily round-up of science media.
Post-Brexit agriculture: Agra Europe reported on a new briefing paper authored by Professor Alan Swinbank (Emeritus Professor of Agricultural Economics at Reading) which looks at the influence the EU has had on the agriculture sector in the UK and how policy could change after Brexit (see attachment).
Defending sugar: Dr Gunter Kuhnle (Food) argued against calls for people to cut their sugar intake on BBC Berkshire, emphasising the importance of a balanced diet.
