'Sticky drugs' academic receives honour from prestigious Russian University
07 June 2017
An academic whose work on ‘sticky’ drug delivery methods gained international recognition has been awarded an Honorary Professorship by Kazan State Medical University (KSMU) in Russia.
Prof Vitaliy Khutoryanskiy, Professor of Formulation Science at the University of Reading, was presented with the award for “outstanding contribution to the development of drug delivery research” by KSMU.
Professor Khutoryanskiy said:
"I am honoured to receive this award, which recognises the research on transmucosal drug delivery conducted by my group in the recent years. I am also very happy to establish very fruitful collaboration with KSMU. This collaboration already resulted in a very good joint publication and I believe that this is just the beginning of a very successful partnership with numerous publications and exchange of visits in both directions."
The award of an honorary degree by KSMU follows a close working relationship with the University for several years and has resulted in joint research with the researchers from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of KSMU, and the collaboration of Prof Khutoryanskiy with Dr Rouslan Moustafine, the dean of this Faculty and his research group, has resulted in a recent joint peer-reviewed publication and several conference presentations.
Drug delivery research conducted by Professor Khutoryanskiy’s team has looked at the development of new materials to help in the administration of drugs and the treatment of wounds. They have focused on how certain pharmaceutical polymers can ‘stick' to mucosal surfaces, such as that found in the mouth, stomach or on the surface of the eye, allowing new ways to administer drugs.
