Global heatwave: Prof Rowan Sutton (Meteorology) was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Today programme (approx. 2 hours 26 mins) discussing the significance of the heatwave being felt across the globe, the likely causes of this and how we will need to adapt to this kind of extreme weather becoming more normal in the future.
Comments from Prof Len Shaffrey (Meteorology) on the same topic were included in The Daily Mail, as was a blog post on the causes of the heatwave. A Press Association article, also featuring comments from Prof Shaffrey, was published on The Daily Mail as well. Reproductions of both articles featured on multiple national and regional outlets, including The Irish Times and WalesOnline. The Guardian and The Independent produced their own versions of the story.
Dr Rob Thompson (Meteorology) was also interviewed on BBC Radio Berkshire (approx. 52 mins in) this morning and a tweet by Meteorology PhD student Simon Lee comparing the 1976 heatwave with this summer's has been retweeted and liked more than 11k times - he is credited for the image in Metro and Indy100. Overseas campuses: Times Higher Education covers a story that Lancaster University is considering a European branch campus post-Brexit. The article features comment from Pro-Vice-Chancellor Vincenzo Raimo, who overseas Reading's campus in Malaysia, on the importance of working with local partners who have knowledge of the region.
Reading to train new mental health workers for schools: Reading will be one of seven organisations to offer education mental health practitioner courses from January 2019, under new Government plans to introduce mental health workers into schools to improve pupils' well-being. Health benefits of berries: The Daily Mail covers new research which has found that eating a handful of berries eat day can reduce the chances of heart disease.
