Reading academic elected to President of the Nutrition Society

Professor Julie Lovegrove from the University of Reading has been elected to serve as the next President of the Nutrition Society.
The role, which will start in June 2019, will see Professor Lovegrove lead the Nutrition Society at a ‘critical time’ for the profession.
Professor Julie Lovegrove said:
“I am honoured to have been elected as the next President of the Nutrition Society. This prestigious learned society has over 75 years history in advancing the scientific study of nutrition and champions efforts to clarify public confusion over nutrition and health with evidenced-based science.
“In my role as President, I will uphold the Society’s mission to advance the scientific study of nutrition and its application in the maintenance of animal and human health. My aspirations are to create further opportunities for students and early career researchers to engage with the Society, and to increase the growth and recognition of nutrition as a major scientific discipline.
“I also wish to extend the reach of the Society into the international arena, and to work more closely with other organisations with the aim of achieving a common voice in evidence-based nutritional science.”
As Director of the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition at the University of Reading, and Deputy Director of the Institute for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research (ICMR), Professor Lovegrove is a highly respected scientists in the field of human nutrition and the relationship with cardiovascular diseases.
Professor Lovegrove was appointed to sit on the UK Government’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition in 2009, is Deputy Chair of Council for the Association for Nutrition (custodian of the Voluntary Register for Nutritionists) and has worked on numerous research projects including the Food4Me consortium looking at the possibilities of personalised nutrition.
Biography
Julie Anne Lovegrove is Professor of Human Nutrition and the Director of the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition at the University of Reading.
Professor Lovegrove is a Registered Nutritionist, and has been active as a member of the Nutrition Society for the past 30 years. Lovegrove has also had an active career as a research scientist and teacher in nutritional science since 1988, and has been published more than 250 times in journals and books.

- Chair of the Accreditation Committee and Deputy Chair of the Council of the Association of Nutrition (AfN)
