Chinese Government recognises professors for low carbon construction teaching programme16 January 2019
Students at a Chinese University have benefitted from international best practice teaching on the design and management of low carbon buildings, and two Professors from the University of Reading have been awarded for their contribution.
Professors Runming Yao and Stuart Green from the School of Construction Management and Engineering have been named in a national educational achievement award for teaching and learning by the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China.
They have been awarded for their involvement in an international postgraduate teaching initiative at Chongqing University which draws from international research in the design, construction and operation of low carbon buildings. The aim is to ensure that built environment professionals in China are fully equipped to address China’s need for sustainable development.
Professor Runming Yao from the School of Construction Management and Engineering at the University of Reading said:
“These awards are hugely prestigious within China and invariably lead to other opportunities. The application was formally led by the immediate past President of Chongqing University, Professor Xuhong Zhou who visited Reading in 2017. I am confident that the relationship between the University of Reading and Chongqing University will continue to prosper for many years to come.”
Professor Stuart Green from the School of Construction Management and Engineering at the University of Reading said:
“It has been my pleasure to be involved in this initiative in my capacity as a Guest Professor at Chongqing University. The initiative stems from a longstanding relationship between Reading and Chongqing which includes staff exchanges and joint research programmes.
“The partnership was initiated by Professor Baizhan Li of Chongqing University who I had the pleasure of first meeting when he was a PhD at Reading in the 1990s.”
The benefits to the University of Reading include a steady flow of postgraduate students and access to two international collaborative research platforms in the area of low carbon green buildings.
Professors Runming Yao and Stuart Green have largely played advisory roles in the project, and the announcement by the People’s Republic of China has also recognised Professor Alan Short from the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge who was also involved.
